Vinicius Jr. tipped for Liverpool transfer with wild claim of ‘positive’ 2027 talks
Vinicius Jr. has been tipped for a sensational free transfer to Liverpool in 2027, with claims the Real Madrid winger’s camp has held “positive” pre-contract talks.
Those claims came from Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, via Defensa Central, as he covered an impasse over Vinicius Jr’s contract.
Alvarez de Mon explained that while both parties are “keen” to continue, there will be no meetings over an extension “as long as Vinicius’ side doesn’t see Real Madrid making a stronger offer.”
That, he claimed, has led the Brazilian’s representatives to explore the market and gauge interest from other clubs – and primarily in the Premier League.
“During those preliminary discussions, there was one club that clearly responded positively. That club is Liverpool,” Alvarez de Mon added.
“But the numbers only made sense looking ahead to 2027.”
That would imply Liverpool’s willingness to sign Vinicius Jr. if he is available on a free transfer next summer, albeit with any deal still proving an expensive one for the club.
Vinicius Jr. only turned 26 earlier this month and is widely considered one of the best attackers in world football, having scored 128 goals and assisted 100 in 375 games for Real Madrid.
Liverpool are likely to be seeking reinforcement on the left wing next summer, if not in the current transfer window, and they have shown in recent years that they are prepared to enter the market for elite-bracket signings.
Still, the expectation is that Vinicius Jr. will continue his association with Real Madrid – even if a new deal isn’t signed imminently.
“I’m increasingly getting the impression that a renewal this summer is unlikely to happen,” Alvarez de Mon continued.
“Of course, how comfortable or uncomfortable Vinicius feels with Mourinho, how the Brazilian performs, how the team functions…[all of this] could be very important.”
Liverpool’s current wide options include Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Rio Ngumoha and new signing Victor Munoz.
Chiesa is due to leave this summer amid interest from Serie A, while the club have not entirely closed the door on Gakpo being sold for the right price.
Wirtz and Szoboszlai may be viewed as No. 10s instead, which could leave only Ngumoha and Munoz are guarantees out wide.
A replacement for Mohamed Salah is the priority this summer, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande the leading target – but with the Ivorian preferring a move to Paris Saint-Germain, their winger Bradley Barcola is another focus.
Liverpool made an enquiry into Monaco right winger Maghnes Akliouche earlier in the summer, but This Is Anfield understands this is no indication of plans for a bid.
