Chelsea are on the hunt for a new manager as they look to replace Enzo Maresca after sacking the Italian earlier this week
Liam Rosenior remains the ‘leading candidate’ to take over at Chelsea, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano who has provided a fresh update on the club’s search for a new manager.

Enzo Maresca was sacked by the club earlier this week following an unrepairable relationship with the club hierarchy at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea had won just one of their last seven games with Maresca missing his press conference following the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Rosenior quickly emerged as the favourite with the Englishman in charge of Strasbourg in France – who are under the same ownership as Chelsea. However, other managers have been linked with former midfielder Cesc Fabregas mooted as a potential replacement.
Within the Premier League, Andoni Iraola is a name who has emerged as a possible contender to replace Maresca.
“About other managers, Francesco Farioli was named in England as a candidate, but from what I’ve heard, Francesco Farioli is completely focused on Porto, he’s not leaving Porto.
“Andoni Iraola, today [Friday] in his press conference, said that he’s staying at Bournemouth, he’s very happy there. Cesc Fabregas confirmed also today that he’s fully focused on Como job, and he hopes to stay as long as possible, so all the names that we saw around have been played down directly by those managers.
“For Rosenior, conversation underway, obviously, there is no need to talk about club to club, because it’s the same ownership, and so it’s just about Chelsea deciding, but the conversation is underway for Liam Rosenior to become the new Chelsea head coach.”
Rosenior has been linked to the Stamford Bridge vacancy since before the decision had been made official to sack Maresca.
The 41-year-old has impressed at the Ligue 1 club in what is only his second full-time job in management. He was in charge of Hull City between November 2022 and May 2024 but was surprisingly sacked by the Yorkshire club despite being nominated for the EFL Championship Manager of the Season.
He also took charge of Derby County back in 2022 in difficult circumstances, winning seven of his 12 games in interim charge.
