Emile Heskey urges Liverpool to consider Cody Gakpo sale

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes the Reds should consider selling Cody Gakpo if a serious offer arrives this summer, despite the forward’s versatility and experience at Anfield.

Speaking to 10bet via Metro, Heskey said new manager Andoni Iraola should take a pragmatic approach as he reshapes his squad, while the BBC has reported there is a possibility Gakpo may never play under the Spaniard.

“I would consider selling Cody if a decent offer was on the table,” Heskey said. “He is an asset who holds significant market value that you could cash in on to fund your own vision.”

He added that a new manager must assess the squad “cold-headedly” when planning for the future.

Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has spent three-and-a-half years at Anfield.

The 27-year-old remains under contract with the Reds, but his future has come under scrutiny as Iraola begins shaping his squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
