AGAIN: Liverpool given fresh hope of Diomande deal amid fiasco as Euro giants threaten for ‘top target’
Liverpool have been handed a renewed opportunity to secure RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, as negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain appear to be unravelling into what reports are calling a “fiasco.” At the same time, another of the club’s preferred attacking options faces growing competition that could remove him from the market entirely.
The departure of Mohamed Salah has sharpened Liverpool’s focus on adding a high-quality wide forward. Diomande and Bradley Barcola have emerged as the two names most consistently linked with a move to Anfield, though interest in both has fluctuated throughout the window.
Diomande: Preference shifts, then stalls
Around a month ago, Diomande looked to be Liverpool’s preferred target. That picture changed when it emerged the Ivorian favoured a switch to PSG should he leave Leipzig. Talks between the German club and the French champions began, yet progress has been painfully slow.
Leipzig value the 21-year-old at £102.5 million. PSG, however, do not share that assessment of his worth. The resulting deadlock has raised the possibility that Leipzig could abandon the sale altogether. Should that happen, Liverpool would find themselves back in the conversation — provided they are prepared to meet the asking price.
The situation remains fluid, but the complications in Paris have reopened a door that had seemed to close.
Barcola: Confidence at Anfield, threat from Munich
With the Diomande route appearing blocked in recent weeks, Liverpool shifted their attention firmly toward Barcola. Fabrizio Romano has described the PSG winger as the Reds’ “top, top, top target,” and there has been genuine belief at Anfield that the Frenchman could become their marquee signing of the summer.
That confidence is now under pressure. Bayern Munich have shortlisted Barcola, according to insider Christian Falk. The German side’s interest is tied to the future of Michael Olise, who is being monitored by Real Madrid. Should Bayern sell Olise for a substantial fee, the funds would help underwrite a move for Barcola, whose valuation has been floated at €150 million (£128m).
A successful approach from Bayern would take one of Liverpool’s primary options off the table and force the club to reassess its priorities.
Ownership picture remains stable
Away from the transfer market, questions continue to surround Liverpool’s long-term ownership structure. Billionaire Jeff Bezos is among those known to have held discussions with the club as Fenway Sports Group explores potential partners. Sources close to the situation stress that these conversations do not signal any intention by FSG to sell.
The American owners remain “as committed as ever” to Liverpool and view the club as a long-term cornerstone of their sporting portfolio. Their current focus is on securing strategic investment rather than an outright exit.
As the window progresses, Liverpool’s pursuit of a new winger hinges on two unresolved threads: whether the Diomande-PSG talks collapse completely, and whether Bayern can muster a credible bid for Barcola. Both situations remain live, and either could reshape the Reds’ summer business.
