Tottenham Begin Negotiations to Land Liverpool-Linked Star Andreas Schjelderup
Since joining Benfica from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, Andreas Schjelderup has largely been used as a squad player. Even so, the 22-year-old made a strong impression last season, contributing nine goals and five assists in 25 starts across the Primeira Liga and Champions League.
The Norwegian winger has already collected a league title and several domestic cup trophies during his time in Lisbon. His club form also earned him a place in Norway’s World Cup squad, where he played a key role in their run to the quarter-finals before they were knocked out by England.
According to reports from O Jogo, Schjelderup’s performances have attracted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea. Benfica, however, are eager to keep him and have offered him a new deal until 2031, despite his current contract running through to 2028.
Tottenham have now emerged as serious contenders, with the report claiming the North London club have already opened discussions with Benfica to explore the conditions of a potential transfer.
Benfica were initially willing to consider offers of around £34 million, but Schjelderup’s growing reputation has seen that valuation rise significantly. The Portuguese giants are now believed to want a fee close to the £68 million Barcelona paid Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon, even though the Norwegian has an £85 million release clause.
A naturally right-footed left winger, Schjelderup is admired for his pace, technical ability, creativity, and relentless work rate off the ball.
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their attack following Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s long-term injury, while Tottenham are also in the market for a new winger after injury issues disrupted their squad last season.
With his talent and enormous potential, Schjelderup is viewed as an exciting option for both clubs. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can beat Liverpool in the race for the highly rated Norwegian.
